GREEN GALA PROCEEDS
Sustainable Braintree's Annual Fundraiser, the Green Gala, raises monies to support the Organizations six major initiatives:
Energy Task Force
- Promotes energy conservation and works cooperatively with local, state, and federal government agencies to encourage the use of renewable energy
- Works with Mass Climate Action Network (MCAN) in the regional COOL MASS program to reduce Braintree’s carbon footprint
- Biggest Carbon Loser competition
- Braintree’s Carbon Footprint calculation
Community Garden Task Force
- Educates residents about the importance of sustainable agriculture and food production practices
- Community Garden using organic practices at Perkins Park
Farmers Market Task Force
- Provides access to locally grown and produced food at the Braintree Farmers Market every Saturday morning at Braintree Town Hall from late June through October with an indoor Thanksgiving market in November.
- Braintree Farmers’ Market
- Publication of Weekly Market Updates throughout the season
Recycling Task Force
- Encourages all Braintree residents and businesses to recycle through education and awareness campaigns.
- Placing recycling receptacles at public events such as Braintree’s Fourth of July Celebration
- Organizes the annual Make a Difference Day on the third Saturday of October
- Presents “Trash Talks” at community and educational organizations
Scholarships and Grants
- $1000 Scholarship to a graduating Braintree High School Senior
- Grants are awarded to teachers through Braintree Funds for Education Program
(BFFE)
Community Education
- Community Meetings provide opportunities for citizens to consider ideas that will help our community be more sustainable. Invited speakers share their expertise and lead discussions at these meetings, which take place about four times a year.
- A weekly column in the Braintree Forum discusses environmental and sustainability topics
