TAKE WATTS OFF THE STREET

The idea to take ‘Watts off the Street’ comes from the simple premise that compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFL) save a significant amount of energy (up to 80%) over old-style incandescent bulbs.

The Energy Task Force began
this program in the summer of
2009 at the Farmer's Market.
Braintree residents, upon proof
of residency, were encouraged
to turn in up to 5 working
incandescent bulbs for 5 new
CFLs. The T-2 CFL bulbs were
purchased by Sustainable Braintree,
thanks to a generous discount
from our friends at Richmond
Hardware. These instant-on
lamps had only 25% the mercury
of standard CFL’s and used 100%
recycled cardboard packaging.
